Unlocking every extra advantage for your character makes a huge difference in Path of Exile 2. One encounter you definitely want to take on is Yama, the White, hidden deep within the Halls of the Dead below the Eye of Hinekora. Finishing this optional side boss grants a permanent reward of two passive skill points, which you can access during the Trial of the Ancestors quest line after saving Matiki on the Isle of Kin. Before stepping into the arena to face his heavy physical and chaos attacks, stocking up on essential POE2 Currency through platforms like u4n is a fantastic way to upgrade your gear and raise your survival odds.
Gear Up to Stand Against Chaos Damage
Yama inflicts massive physical damage combined with lingering chaos effects, meaning weak defensive stats will lead to a very fast defeat. Prioritizing chaos resistance on your ring slots and amulets should be your top goal before entering the Halls of the Dead. If your character build uses energy shield as its primary defensive layer, taking the Chaos Inoculation passive renders his chaos-based abilities completely useless. Trading for high-grade equipment through u4n provides a quick and smooth method to build up your armor values so you can absorb his hardest hits without trouble.
Dodge the Devastating Time Stop Mechanic
When Yama drops down to around a third of his total health pool, he activates his most dangerous spell by freezing time and summoning shadow clones across the room. This phase tests your quick decision-making under intense pressure. Among all the duplicates spawned in the arena, a single copy will highlight a bright glowing circle on the ground beneath it. You must use a movement skill to leap into that designated circle immediately. Staying outside the ring when time resumes results in an instant defeat, so watch the floor carefully as soon as the area darkens.
Outlast the Pillar and Staff Phase
At specific points during the battle, Yama leaps on top of his staff and perches high on a stone pillar, turning totally immune to all incoming attacks. While airborne, he and his illusions shower the arena floor with a constant stream of chaos projectiles. Trying to launch attacks at him during this time is completely ineffective and exposes your hero to heavy damage. The safest approach is to run behind the large stone structures located around the arena, using them to block line of sight until he finishes raining projectiles and drops back down to earth.
Side Step Frontal Glyphs and Flamethrowers
Outside of his major phase shifts, Yama routinely uses two frontal abilities that call for swift side-stepping. He occasionally plunges his staff straight into the ground, etching a glowing purple glyph across the dirt that explodes a moment later to create a hazardous pool. Dashing clear of the drawn pattern keeps you completely safe from the burst damage. When he starts casting his directional chaos flamethrower skill, rolling directly behind his back lets you avoid all damage while giving you an open window to keep attacking continuous hit sequences.
Close Quarters Tactics and Socket Preparation
Staying right in front of or behind Yama in close proximity is actually much safer than trying to keep your distance during the fight. Sticking close to his back prevents him from utilizing his most lethal ranged spells, allowing you to control the pace of the battle much more effectively. After claiming your victory and securing those valuable passive points, relying on a POE 2 Jeweller's Orb from u4n helps you adjust gear socket links for your newly unlocked skill gems. Taking down side bosses early ensures your build remains strong and ready for every challenge ahead.
